The Retell Dance's standards amd objective are difficult, yet accomplishing this way of teaching is a very effieient and useful way to teach children. The Dance's objective is to increase the children's listening and comprehension. The dance has the children breakdown a story and then the peers of the student must listen carefully to see if the story teller is doing it correctly, following its instructions. The students while listening to the story highlight the corresponding words on the paper as the child tells her story. They then discuss the story and what they have highlighted on the paper to see if the story was told as closely as it was written, that allows the teacher to see who was listening and to help the students increase their listening skills explaining what to look for.
II. The Learning Environment
In the Retell Dances, the learning environment is very instructive and organize in a way which the student can learned. They are place on a very clean and wide area on the floor where each of the student and the teacher sit. The room is full with warm color and different material which could help the student with their learning process. The teacher is very alert and excited about what she is teaching. She corrected them when they make mistake, students are place in group in circle.
III. The Learning Activities
During the RetellDance, students are given instuction about ways to started the dance, each students started to counted with teacher nine time. Counting with different body movement while they are clapping three time for each position, side, fronth and side. Each clap reprensented something . The teacher also participate where sudent are profroming the dances and learning thier differnt part of book. Title, character and setting, etc. They are place in this circle and each student is given a story that they would have to find what story their peer just read. Student are having fun and learning at the same time . Another activity where student was very act and created was when the teacher created a story and let one of the peer read one sentences from that group and then the rest of the class had to participate by finding the senctences which their classmate just readed.
IV. Personal Reflections (Yours)
The Retell Dance addresses the standards and objectives in a very efficient way. As long as the students are engaged and interacting i believe it is a good lesson to use in the classroom. Watching the video, the students were very engaged, some yelling the answer out and seom being called on and still knowing the answer. The children had their highlighters and they marked what they had to on on their sheet as the one student would tell their story. I was very impressed that this lesson was done in a 1st grade classroom, that took me by surprise. The fact that at such a young age children are listening so well and applying what they see and hear together is very good. Like the teacher said, to be taught thi at such a young age is very good and well make them very good students as they get older.
